Why egg prices move
Farm diseases
The Egg Board blamed ILT, inclusion body hepatitis and low-path bird flu for tight supply (Manila Times, 27 Aug 2026; BusinessMirror, 2 Sep 2026).
Farmgate vs retail
PSA preliminary data put the Q2 2026 farmgate price at ₱6.30 per egg, 7.9% lower than a year earlier, while output rose 13.2% (via Zootecnica, 27 Aug 2026).
Native eggs are a different size
DOST-PCAARRD lists native hen eggs at about 40–44 g — the size of the smallest “pewee” grade — and native hens lay about 62–110 eggs a year depending on the strain (PCAARRD Poultry Information System).
